How do I make my first clips with Auk?

Updated

Paste a YouTube link, or upload a video file, at the top of your Home page, then press Make clips. Auk finds the best moments, cuts them into vertical clips with captions, and emails you when they are ready.

Steps

  1. Open Home in the sidebar.
  2. Paste a YouTube link into the field and press Get clips, or press Upload a file at the right end of the field and choose a video.
  3. In the window that opens, wait for Analyzing… to change to Make clips.
  4. Optional: change Video type, Language or Clip length from Auto, and pick a caption style on the Captions tab or a saved template on the Template tab.
  5. Optional: under Section, drag the two handles or type a Start time and End time to use only part of the video. Auk looks for clips only inside that part, and you pay only for its minutes.
  6. Check the credit cost next to the button, then press Make clips.

Auk opens the project page, where clips appear one by one as they are made. You can close the tab.

Which videos can I use?

  • YouTube links. The video must be available in at least 480p. Today one run can use up to 2 hours of it: for a longer video, pick a Section of 2 hours or less.
  • Video files up to 2 GB, with Upload a file.

Links from other sites are not accepted. For a video hosted elsewhere, download it and upload the file.

What does it cost?

One credit per minute of the part you use (the whole video unless you pick a Section), charged once. Clips and exports are free. If you do not have enough credits, the button reads Not enough credits and an Upgrade button takes you to pricing. Details: How credits work.

What if YouTube blocks the download?

The project page says Download blocked by YouTube. Press Upload your video instead and choose the same video as a file; Auk carries on in the same project.
